Customer generation – or private generation – systems are small-scale, on-site power sources located at or near customers’ homes or businesses.

 

Private Generation projects are electric power generators either directly interconnected to MidAmerican Energy's electric distribution system or connected to the electric facilities of a MidAmerican Energy electric retail customer. An interconnection is the connection of electric facilities between MidAmerican Energy and a customer. Private generation includes only electric generators that ultimately interconnect to MidAmerican Energy's electric distribution system at voltages less than 100 kilovolts.

 

Common private generation technologies include but are not limited to wind turbines, solar, internal combustion engines, gas turbines and fuel cells.
